CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for the Troy Douglas Carr Scholarship For Criminal
Justice, a recipient must meet the following criteria:
- Be a current student, in good standing, at an accredited College
or University, majoring, or intending to major in Criminal Justice
(or related
degree) or be accepted for enrollment in an accredited college
or University to prepare for a career in law enforcement.
- Be recommended by any law enforcement officer presently serving
or retired form the service in the State of North Carolina.
- Demonstrate to the satisfaction of the directors the potential,
the character, and the professionalism to serve the people
of the State of
North Carolina in a law enforcement career
APPLICATION PROCEEDURES
Each applicant must complete the following steps prior to the annual
deadline for applications:
- Submit an application to reflect the criteria for the scholarship
as noted above.
- Submit a letter of nomination and recommendation from a law enforcement
officer presently serving or retired from service in the State of
North Carolina.
- Submit at least two letters of recommendation from teachers,
counselors, and/or academic administrators attesting to the applicant’s
academic ability & character.
- Submit such additional information and documentation as the directors
may determine to be useful in the selection process.
- Submit official copy of all academic transcripts.
SELECTION PROCESS
Following the application deadline, the directors will:
- Review each application for completeness and applicant eligibility.
- Check such references or records as the directors deem appropriate.
- Interview eligible applicants as may be necessary to select the
best qualified candidate.
- Select the best qualified applicant.
- Notify the scholarship winner or winners. (Mid June)
- Notify applicants not selected. (Mid June)
RENEWAL
The scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of the directors for
subsequent academic periods under the following conditions:
- The recipient must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA)
in all class work taken of 2.5 or higher with no grade lower than
C.
- The recipient must remain in good standing at his or her institution.
- The recipient must reapply each year for the scholarship.
